The Cookie Monster (week 13)

Hello everyone! It has been another great week in Michigan!

Last Tuesday I made a bunch of cookies and some giant cookies which was super fun. 

On Wednesday we had an awesome district council and we talked about bearing pure testimony, and we all had the opportunity to bear our testimonies and it was a super spiritual time. 

Thursday we had some lessons. We also had to sweep the church because the sisters had called us the night before and said that they had to leave the church in a rush because there was some sketchy stuff and they all felt like they should leave. We went through the building and didn't find anything. It was kind of fun though.

On Friday, President Nelson gave an amazing message of hope and healing. What an amazing message and an amazing experience. If there's anyone who didn't get the chance to watch it, please do. It is exactly the message we needed to hear during this troublesome time. That message has benefited me so much already. #givethanks

On Saturday we did our last, last garden service. The weather is still favorable here. We've had some snow flurries but nothing has stuck yet! This garden was awesome, it is primarily used by immigrants from Nepal and the surrounding regions. They are so innovative with their gardening techniques. The garden was massive and was surrounded by acres of forest. They have an electric fence up to keep the deer out and me and Elder Leavitt repaired some fallen parts of the fence and cut off some overgrowth on it. It was really fun! I also found, buried in the ground, an old Michigan license plate from the 80's. 

On Sunday we enjoyed a really great devotional given to the North America North East region by President Eyring, Elder Soares, and Elder Bassett of the seventy. Elder Bassett did a mission tour in the MLM just a couple of months back which was really good. I really enjoyed the talk he gave.

But yes it's been a great week! We are teaching some amazing individuals and we are finding new people pretty consistently! Michigan is wonderful. Thank you all for your support

Hello everyone and happy new year!  It has been a great week here in Michigan! We are coming up on the very last week of the transfer now which is crazy! This week our companionship was able to coordinate and lead a pilot program for a new social media initiative we are trying to launch. 2 of the missions zones are participating in this pilot program so that we can get some projected numbers together for the mission. We are doing something that really no other mission has done and that is the use of area and subject matter specific Facebook groups. We have some really cool early successes and we are excited to see what comes out of it all.  Our zone has also been in a content competition with the Jackson zone which our companionship and the Jackson SMS companionship have launched. Sprint Week Vol. III, Featuring the Craziest Day of My Mission so Far (Week 25)

Hello everyone! It has been a very eventful week here in Michigan! Such an amazing blessing as our mission had the opportunity to sprint once again! We set high goals as a mission this time, 1400 invites to church, 800 member lessons set, 2300 invites to be taught, and 1000 invites to read the Book of Mormon! After some good effort, our companionship was able to accomplish all of our goals and our mission crushed our sprint week goals! On Saturday, we were lacking behind a bit especially for invites to church, and in the morning devotional, President Heap challenged us to get 750 invites to church that day and President Gentile gave an amazing hype up devotional. As a mission we more than doubled that number on Saturday! It was amazing to be a part of.   Tuesday however was crazy! In the morning we had a housing inspection which was fun! MTC at Home

MTC at Home - Day #1 March 17th was the day that Jake was scheduled to leave for the South African MTC in Johannesburg. That didn't happen. COVID-19 happened instead. On March 13th we were informed that he would be doing "remote" MTC training and not going to South Africa, just yet. He was supposed to have his "farewell" talk on March 15th, but church was canceled and so he didn't have to speak. We had a get together anyway with a sanitation station and hopes of not spreading disease. So far, so good. On Monday, March 16th, South Africa revoked all Visa's for travelers from the United States, so we aren't sure what that means or how he will be issued a new one. To get that Visa he had to travel to LA and interview with the SA consulate, will he have to do that again? On March 17th he was set apart as a full-time missionary.
